Questions

What Stillna is

What is Stillna?

Stillna is an app for iPhone and Android. It sorts the apps on your phone into three layers: Lugn, Produktiv and Flöde.

The layers close on a schedule, with a tap in the app, or when you hold a card to the phone. The page How Stillna works shows it step by step.

What are the three layers?

Lugn is what you really need: calling, messaging, paying, finding your way. Produktiv is what you use now and then: work, studies, errands, travel bookings. Flöde is what you tend to scroll a little too long: social media, video, games, news and shopping.

Produktiv and Flöde close and open on the schedule. Lugn is closed only by Egen tid, a mode you start yourself.

How is Stillna different from Apple's Screen Time?

Stillna builds on Apple's Screen Time on iPhone and arranges it in three layers that close separately, each at its own times. Produktiv has a single way to open early, and Flöde has none, except the Scrolling card. A card can close the layers without you going into your phone, and the screen shown instead of a closed app carries your own words.

Stillna is also made for Android, with the same layers and the same cards.

Is Stillna an app blocker?

Stillna closes apps at the times you choose: an app in a closed layer cannot be opened until its layer opens. The apps are sorted into three layers, so what you really need, such as calling, paying and finding your way, stays open while the other layers are closed.

Is the app out yet?

Stillna is not released yet, and we do not promise a date.

If you would like to try it before the release, leave your email address in the form at the foot of the page.

Which phones does Stillna work on?

Stillna works on iPhone and Android. The app will be released for both at the same time.

On iPhone it needs iOS 26 or later. The app is made for iPhone, not for iPad.

Which Android phones work is a question we will come back to shortly: the Android app is under development.

Does Stillna need the internet?

Stillna does not need the internet. The app has no account and works offline.

Does Stillna send notifications?

Stillna sends one kind of notification only: a notice when a layer did not close as planned. Nothing when a layer closes or opens, no reminders and no summaries.

Which languages is the app in?

The app is in Swedish, English and French.

The layers and the schedule

Which apps go in which layer?

The app suggests a sorting. Move whatever you like.

The suggestion for Lugn: Phone, Messages, Camera, Maps, BankID, your bank app, Swish, Wallet, Weather, Notes and public transport. For Produktiv: mail, calendar, the web browser and documents, film apps without a feed, apps for home electronics, travel and exercise. For Flöde: social media, video, games, news and shopping, and the apps that are hard to put down.

How does the schedule work?

Produktiv and Flöde close and open separately, at times the app suggests and that you can change. The times can differ between days, for example weekdays and weekends.

The suggestion: Produktiv open from 07:00 to 21:00 and Flöde open from 11:00 to 20:00. There is also a suggestion that closes at night only.

What happens to an app I have not sorted, or a new app I install?

Everything that is not in Lugn or Flöde belongs to Produktiv, and closes and opens with that layer.

Can I close a layer outside the schedule?

You can close a layer whenever you like: tap Close early in the app and choose for how long, or hold a card to the phone.

A closing you start yourself or with a card runs for its full time.

What do I see when I open an app in a closed layer?

A screen instead of the app. It shows one of your own words, which layer is closed and when it opens.

You write the words in Stillna: what you would rather do than use the closed apps. The app suggests a few, which you can change.

What is Egen tid?

A mode that closes everything except Phone and a few apps you chose once, for example Messages. You start it yourself, with a tap in the app or with a card.

Can I limit how long a layer is open each day?

Flöde can have a limit on how long it may be open each day. The app suggests 45 minutes a day, and you can change it. When the time is up, Flöde closes for the rest of the day.

The limit applies to all Flöde apps together, not to one app at a time. It counts the apps and websites you chose one by one, not whole categories.

Does Stillna close websites too?

When Flöde is closed, Stillna closes the websites of social media, video and games in Safari too. The rest of the web stays open.

A web browser is itself an app in a layer. If Chrome is in Produktiv, for example, it closes when Produktiv closes.

Can I keep the messages of a Flöde app open and close only its feed?

An app is open or closed as a whole, so the messages in a Flöde app close with its feed.

Messages and the messaging apps you keep in Lugn stay open all evening. Your friends can reach you there.

Opening early

Can I open a layer early?

Produktiv can be opened early. It takes two minutes, on purpose.

Flöde cannot: it opens at the time in your schedule. The one exception is the Scrolling card, for a short while.

How do I open Produktiv early?

Copy the sentence Stillna shows and tap Start the countdown. Then lay the phone face down for two minutes, and Produktiv opens.

The minutes give you time to feel whether you need the app right now.

Why is there no snooze, and no way to skip tonight?

No button for five more minutes, no easy way out. What we see and hear from our community: a button like that makes a limit useless.

Scrolling is fine, at the hours in your schedule. You can change the hours while the layer is open.

Can I change the schedule or move an app to get round a closed layer?

While a layer is closed, a change can only close more, never open anything. Closed hours can be made longer, and an app can be moved to a layer with shorter opening hours.

What if I need something urgently while the layers are closed?

Lugn holds the apps for quick things and direct contact: calling, messaging, paying, finding your way. Phone and Wallet never close, and emergency calls always work.

If the app you need is in Produktiv, you can open Produktiv early.

How do I leave Egen tid early?

Lay the phone face down for 60 seconds. Lugn then opens.

The cards

What does a card do?

It closes layers when you hold it to a phone, your own or your children's. You do not need to go into the phone.

The rules live in the app; the card starts them. It sits where it is used: on the kitchen wall, on the bedside table.

Do I need a card to use Stillna?

Stillna works fully without a card, and the app is free.

Which cards are there?

There are three cards to begin with. Middag helps the family eat without scrolling: it closes Produktiv and Flöde. God natt is for going to bed without the phone, if a card works better for you than the schedule. Scrolling is the exception: it opens Flöde for a short while even though the layer is closed, once a day.

More cards will follow, based on what our community asks for. Write to us to order a special card.

How do I add a card and use it?

Open Stillna and hold the card to the top of the phone. A card from Stillna arrives prepared: the app shows what the card does, and you add it with one tap.

After that, holding the card to the phone is enough.

How long does a card keep the layers closed?

As long as it says on the card. Each card has an empty box where you write your minutes or hours with a pen. The first time the card is added, the app asks how long it closes for, which layers, and whether to lock the card. A locked card does the same thing on every phone with one tap, and cannot be changed. An unlocked card can be changed from any phone with Stillna, which is handy while you try things out.

When the card's time is up, the schedule applies again. A layer that is closed on the schedule stays closed.

Can a card open a closed layer?

Only the Scrolling card can open a closed layer. It opens Flöde for the number of minutes you set, once a day, and only with the card in your hand. The app has no button that does the same.

The app suggests 15 minutes the first time it reads the card. The other cards close layers and never open them.

Can the whole family use one card?

One card is enough for the whole family: a Middag card on the kitchen wall works on every phone in the family.

Stillna needs to be installed on each phone the card is to close, and each phone adds the card once.

Can I use my own NFC cards?

Most NFC cards and NFC tags can be added to Stillna and close layers. The cards we sell are the nicer version of something you can make yourself. Follow our guide to your own NFC cards. We cannot promise that every card works.

What happens if I lose a card?

Nothing is lost. A closing the card started has an end time and reaches it. Remove the card from the list in the app and add a new one.

A card only works on a phone where it has been added.

Does the card need a battery or the internet?

The card needs neither a battery nor the internet. It holds a small NFC chip, and what the card does is set on your phone.

What are the cards made of?

The cards are made of bamboo, with a small NFC chip inside.

iPhone and Android

Is Stillna the same on iPhone and Android?

The idea is the same: three layers, a schedule and the cards. Apple and Google allow different things, so some details differ. The questions below go through them; child mode is under Children and families.

Can Stillna be my home screen, with only my Lugn apps?

On Android, Stillna can be the phone's home screen: a plain list of your Lugn apps. You switch it on under Settings › Home screen.

On iPhone, the same list is a widget, from iOS 27. On iOS 26 there is no widget, and the guide A calm home screen shows how to set up the iPhone's own home screen.

Why do I choose my apps in Apple's own list on iPhone?

Apple does not let any app see, or fill in, which apps you choose. So you tick them yourself in Apple's list, once for Lugn and once for Flöde, and Stillna tells you what to look for.

On Android, Stillna can list the apps itself, so the sorting happens inside Stillna.

Can Stillna be switched off in the phone's settings?

On iPhone, Stillna works through Apple's Screen Time, and that permission can be switched off in the phone's settings. Protect it with a Screen Time passcode. The guide Lock Screen Time has the steps.

If the passcode is there to hold you to your own limits, let someone else choose it.

On Android: we will come back to this question shortly, as the Android app is under development.

Do closed apps still send notifications?

On iPhone, closed apps still send notifications. A Focus set for the same hours keeps them quiet.

On Android: we will come back to this question shortly, as the Android app is under development.

Which permissions does Stillna ask for?

On iPhone: the Screen Time permission, which Apple's own screen asks for. You choose the apps in Apple's list.

On Android: we will come back to this question shortly, as the Android app is under development.

Does Stillna cover my tablet or computer too?

Stillna only applies to the phone it is installed on. A layer that closes on your phone does not close the same apps on another device.

Children and families

Can I set up Stillna on my child's phone?

A parent sets up Stillna on the child's phone, in person. The rules then sit behind a parent code. The code comes from an authenticator app on the parent's phone, and there are printed backup codes.

Child mode is meant for children under 13, or for a family that has agreed on it. Our advice to parents: start with your own phone.

Can I see or change my child's phone from my own?

A child's phone cannot be seen or changed from another phone. There is no parent app and no remote control: nothing leaves the child's phone. A parent changes the rules on the child's phone, with the parent code.

Stillna reads no messages, follows no location and makes no reports.

Can my child open a layer early, or ask for more time in the app?

On a child's phone there is no early opening and no button for more time. The exception is the Scrolling card, if a parent has added it. Everything else changes only with the parent code.

The child can see what is open, what opens when, and for how long.

Is child mode the same on iPhone and Android?

Child mode differs between iPhone and Android. On iPhone it uses Apple's own permission for parents, which the parent gives in person on the child's phone. On Android it uses Google Family Link, with Stillna as the home screen.

The Android version is weaker than the iPhone version. The setup says in a few lines what it does not prevent.

What can child mode not do?

Another device is not covered. A phone that is erased from a computer becomes an ordinary phone. Videos a friend sends in Messages can be watched. An app that is kept open is open as a whole.

If the rules stop working on an iPhone, the phone tells no one. The child's own screen shows that the rules were set by a parent and when they were last checked.

Is Stillna for teenagers?

Stillna suits a teenager who wants it for themselves. A teenager sets up Stillna as their own app, with their own rules, like an adult. The app does not ask your age and has no teen mode.

Do the cards work on a child's phone?

The cards that close layers work on a child's phone without the parent code. Adding, changing or removing a card is behind the code.

The Scrolling card works too, if a parent has added it. The parent chooses its minutes behind the code, and they come on top of the child's daily limit. It opens Flöde for a short while even though the layer is closed, once a day.

Price

What does Stillna cost?

The app costs nothing, for adults and children, on iPhone and Android, for the life of version 1. The whole app: nothing is timed and nothing is held back.

No subscription, free and with no ads at all. Nothing to buy in the app.

Why is the app free?

Stillna is free, and still collects nothing and shows no ads. The app is new, and we want as many people as possible to use it. We hope it helps society towards a more balanced use of phones, and that people do something meaningful with the time they get back.

What do the cards cost?

A card costs 149 kr, the Startpaket (starter pack) with all three 349 kr. Prices include VAT. In other EU countries the price is shown in the local currency.

Shipping is added at checkout. See "How are the cards sent?" below.

If the app is free, what does Stillna live on?

The cards are the only thing we sell. The app has no running costs once it is on your phone, so there is nothing ongoing to charge for.

Privacy and data

What data does the app collect?

The app collects no data. It has no account and no analytics. Nothing leaves the phone, except a log you choose to send to support yourself.

Can Stillna see which apps I use, or how much?

Stillna does not see which apps you use and keeps no statistics or reports. No points, no streaks and no badges. The app does its job and leaves you alone. It reads no messages and follows no location.

On iPhone, Apple does not even let Stillna see which apps you chose for each layer. On Android, Stillna reads the list of installed apps to sort them, on the phone.

What data does the website collect?

An email address, and only if you give us one. The website uses no cookies, no analytics and no tracking, so we keep no record of who visits.

Our hosting provider handles technical data, such as IP addresses, as far as needed to deliver and protect the site. More in our privacy policy.

What happens to my email address when I sign up?

We send a message to confirm it, and add it to the list only once you have confirmed. We use it to write to you about the test version and when we have important news about Stillna. It is never sold, rented or shared for anyone else's purposes.

The list is stored by our email provider in the United States, under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

How do I unsubscribe?

Every email we send has an unsubscribe link at the bottom.

How do I have my data deleted?

Write to us through the contact form, and we delete it. You can also ask there what data we hold about you. We answer within one month, at no charge.

What data do you keep when I buy cards?

To deliver your order we process your name, address, email, phone number and payment. Stripe handles the payment, the carrier delivers the letter, our email provider sends the order emails and our hosting provider runs the site. We never see or store your card number. How long the data is kept, and why, is in the privacy policy.

Buying, shipping and returns

Where do I buy the cards?

On stillna.app, on the Buy cards page. The cards go on sale once the app is in the App Store and Google Play.

How can I pay?

By card, Swish, Klarna, Apple Pay or Google Pay. The ways to pay are shown at the start of the checkout.

Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.

How are the cards sent?

The cards are sent from Sweden, always tracked. You get an email with a tracking link when your order has been posted.

The shipping cost depends on where the order goes and is shown at checkout before you pay. More on the Shipping page.

How long does delivery take?

Your order is posted within two working days. Delivery then takes 3 to 5 working days within the EU, and longer outside it. More on the Shipping page.

Which countries do you ship to?

Sweden, most EU countries and the United Kingdom. The full list is on the Shipping page.

For the United Kingdom, UK VAT is included in the price. Elsewhere outside the EU VAT area, for example Åland and the Canary Islands, import VAT, duties and fees may apply. They are paid by the buyer.

Can I return a card?

The right of withdrawal applies for 14 days from delivery, and you do not need to give a reason. The buyer pays the return postage. We refund everything you paid, including the standard shipping cost.

A card that has been written on or locked in the app cannot be sold again, and its value is then deducted from the refund. More on the Right of withdrawal and returns page.

What if my order does not arrive?

We carry the risk until the order has been delivered. If it has not arrived 10 days after the email saying it was posted, write to us through the contact form or WhatsApp with your order number. We send it again at no cost, or refund the whole amount, shipping included.

What if a card is broken or does not work?

A card that arrives broken, or that the phone cannot read, is faulty. It is replaced or refunded at no cost to you. You can report a fault for three years. Write to us through the contact form or WhatsApp.

Who sells the cards?

Stillna AB, a Swedish company with its registered office in Stockholm, organisation number 559599-7148.

Trouble and support

An app I need is closed. What do I do?

An app that is in neither Lugn nor Flöde belongs to Produktiv, which closes on the schedule. Produktiv can be opened early; it takes two minutes.

If you need the app often, move it to Lugn. You can do that while the layer is open.

A layer did not close when it should. How will I know?

Stillna sends a notice when a layer did not close as planned. It is the app's only notification.

An app opens although its layer is closed. Why?

On iPhone, two things outside Stillna can make an app ignore its layer, and Stillna cannot see them: the Always Allowed list in Apple's Screen Time, and another app that also uses Screen Time. If you also use Apple's own app limits, you may sometimes see Apple's screen instead of ours.

If Stillna's permission is switched off in the phone's settings, nothing is closed. See "Can Stillna be switched off in the phone's settings?" above.

What happens if a layer closes while I am in a call or using an app?

The app closes, even while you are using it, and Stillna's screen shows instead. A call carries on: Phone never closes.

I have a new phone. Do I need to set up Stillna again?

On a new phone, Stillna is set up again. Stillna has no account, so nothing carries over. On the new phone you choose your apps and add your cards again.

What happens if I delete Stillna?

Everything opens again, closed layers included. It is the quickest way out if something is urgent. If you protected Stillna with a Screen Time passcode, the passcode is needed to delete the app.

Your settings go with the app. If you install Stillna again, you choose your apps again.

How do I reach you?

Through the contact form. In the app, Settings has a row called Support and feedback, which opens an email or WhatsApp.
